It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like...
The Holidays. Holy crap, Smarties. The Holidays. Some of us have already gotten past Hannukah and some of us are just getting to Christmas, but ALL of us are deep in the midst of WINTER BREAK. That unholiest of times when we really want to snuggle on the couch and watch movies with our Smartlings whilst sipping cocoa and grinning lovingly at each other... when in reality it's a time of "where are we going today" and "why don't we have a playdate" and "I want a snack" and still waking up early as hell because, although they can't seem to get up on school days... now they're excited for break! I don't know about you, but I always paint myself an idiotically idyllic picture of what these breaks will be like. Fun and family time and game nights and wheeeeee!!!! I have big plans for breaks. I really do. I truly, truly think that we'll bake together and hang out with buddies and everything will be lovely and easy. When really, my kids are kinda pissed because they can't see their friends because everyone is busy with holiday prep and/or travel (including us) and it's mostly a lot of running errands and tempering their annoyance while I get stuff done. Are you there, too? Yeah. I feel ya, Smarties. I feel ya.
Just... sigh. Source: GIPHY
So... Christina, Jess and I will be taking a break this week to attempt to spend some quality time with our kids and create at least 30 minutes of that idiotic Winter Break nirvana picture I insist on believing in. Or, you know, at least to like, play a game of Jenga and hope nobody screams the whole time. That sounds good, too.
In the meantime, we leave you with some things that will bring you joy. Things that will bring you laughter. Things that will bring you inspiration. Things that you can look at while hiding from your kids in bathroom. Wait, what? Nothing. Ahem. (But seriously, bring a drink in there with you and really stretch that time out as long as humanly possible.) Anyway. Enjoy and we'll see you in a week! HAPPY HOLIDAYS, SMARTIES!!
Bathroom (Hiding) Reading
* Smarties Extraordinaire, The Amys and Tina Fey, being all awesome and wonderful and hilarious while also tackling the idea that it really does take a damn village.
* The Toast brings us our new favorite holiday music: "Songs From a Christmas Album in Which More Than a Few Aims of Feminism Have Been Achieved"
* And last, but certainly not least, for your final holiday shopping needs, The Establishment brings you "The Official 2015 Feminist Killjoy Holiday Gift Guide." Personally, I'm incredibly partial to #10 (seriously, read it now right now go get it now), but they're all pretty damn fantastic.
